Vista - can't install 2.2.2 or uninstall 2.2.0

I am trying to upgrade to the current 2.2.2, but every time I try, it appears to be just about complete and then it rolls back and states "the installation has encountered an error and didn't update, please try again later". It doesn't give me any clue as to what the error may be and I have tried several times and have restarted the PC as well before attempting a couple of times.

I thought that I would just uninstall my 2.2.0 and then install 2.2.2 from scratch, but the uninstall does the same thing. It almost completes and then rolls back without unistalling.

Now when I run VBox, it is 2.2.0, but I have lost my USB support.

Any ideas on how I can get the update to 2.2.2 to work so I can see if it resolves my USB problem?

TIA,
Peedoe

To followup on my last post, I found the following bug report helpful:

In short, there's a description on how to hack the registry so that the 2.2.0 uninstall works succeeds, after which 2.2.2 can be installed.
Note that after hacking the registry and uninstalling, the uninstaller reported a fatal problem, even though in fact VirtualBox no longer appeared in the control panel's list of installed applications. At any rate, the install of 2.2.2 went OK after that.
