Creating a VM - new installation

When attempting to create a new VM I get the following problem: At "Virtual Disk Location and Size" accepting the default (it shows WIN7) causes the program to freeze. Entering a path (in this case V:\VirtualBox\WIN7\WIN7) it shows the path correctly in the next Summary dialog: "Location: V:\VirtualBox\WIN7\WIN7.vdi"
Clicking Finish (twice) produces an error message: "Failed to create a new virtual machine WIN7. Could not create a directory "F:VirtualBox\Win7" to save the settings file (VERR_PATH_NOT_FOUND). NOTE the different drive letter.
Info: Host machine runs Windows Vista Ultimate. VirtualBox is installed on a USB hard drive that has drive letter V:. A previous installation of VirtualBox was installed on this drive when it was connected as F: - That was uninstalled and all directories were empty. The newer version of VirtualBox 2.2.2 was freshly installed. The machine has been rebooted after the uninstall and after the new install.
Any assistance is appreciated.

So the system is completely clean from any setting it previously had? So also your profile folder .VirtualBox was cleared? You can always create a disk using the command line, vboxmanage, but it is a bit tricky, especially if you never worked with a command line before.
Also, check the drive letters in the Windows Disk Management (right click My Computer > Manage).

Thank you Sasquatch for you prompt reply. I searched for a profile folder but could not find it. But clearly there was previous information. Call me dumb, but it had not occured to me to check "Virtual Media Manager" and "Preferences". So the newly installed VirtualBox had found the profile and loaded those locations. I entered the correct information there and was able to proceed. I am installing a new Windows 7 (RC) system for testing. VirtualBox had worked fine with the previous version.
So the system was not completely clean. Can you tell me where the profile folder is normally located? I could not find it (hidden files are displayed on my system).

In Vista you can find the folders that you need by looking under your folder and then for .virtualbox (notice the dot)
This holds the virtualbox.xml which is the main control file for virtualbox.
you individual machines (unless you moved the location in preference) is below that in a folder called machine. VDIs are in the VDI folder.....and so on.

Hello,
i newly installed a virtual box software from sun java website though am new to it and i tried to open the software after installation and it says fatal no bootable medium found ! system halted Package type: WINDOWS_32BITS_GENERIC . i dont know what next to do pls i would want you to direct me on how to go about it am using an HP ( windows vista ).
