is it possible to use the harddisk partition vmdk in virtualBox , if it is created in VMware ? can such a vmdk be created ?
i understand that the vmdk files are usable , but since there are errors during partition vmdk creation , would that have any effect if the vmdk is created in VMware? would it be bootable? anything i'd have to change/lookout for, to make them compatible with VirtualBox?

The Forum Posting Guide asks you to stick to one topic per post so I've splt this Q off. There are two issue here: (i) getting the VMDK media to interoperate between VMware and VBox. VMware changed their VMDK format for the latest version of VMware Workstation. VMware Workstation can work with the old and new formats. AFAIK, at the moment VBox only supports the old format. (ii) Moving the VMDK between VBox and VMware is a bit like moving a physical HDD between two different PCs. The VM architectures are different -- sufficiently different to cause Windows to go into activation mode for example. Linux is a lot more tolerant. VBox Guest Additions don't load if not running under VBox, but the VMware tools still attempt to install if you are running under VBox and can cause problems.
