moving an xp vdi from vista to ubuntu

I'm running virtualbox 2.2.2 on ubuntu 9.04, and trying to run xp-sp3 as a guest.

I'm using a vdi file for xp that works great in virtualbox on vista but hangs when I boot it with ubuntu as the host. booting windows in safe mode, it's hanging at mup.sys

I've also checked that my configuration settings are all the same, esp. regarding the IDE controller and VT-x settings.

Thanks for your help and advice on fixing this...

Steve

Have you tried to export it in the Vista VBox GUI and then import it in the Ubuntu GUI?
You can also use the VBoxManage import <name of import>.ovf --dry-run to see the settings that you need to have in the Ubuntu guest settings.

Compare the settings under General.
