Have just installed Virtualbox without problems - very smooth - and have read right through the user manual. I wish to use it for a test of the RC of Windows 7 on the assumption that MS will make everything fall over and the virtualisation should therefore protect me
However, the host system pauses with the error disk system is full at 86% of expanding files from the ISO. This is repeatable as I have gone right back to the start three times. I have the memory specified as 750mb and the vdi as 20gb dynamic. At the time of the pause the vdi is 4gb in size and Start/my computer/c:/properties advises 14gb free space.
Can anybody help? Unfortunately I do not have a spare disk to add to make a larger vdi at present although I have one on order.

Why not try setting the VDI dynamic to no more that what you actually have free on the host?
You could try to free up some disk space too.
An if you want to have a more reliable Windows set the memory to 768meg instead of 750meg.
Thank you for the suggestions. I tried both i.e. set disk size to less than available and removed 3 or 4gb of unwanted files. Exactly same result ' disk full' at 86% expansion. As the disk available is now different the 86% being constant suggests some sort of problem.
I decided that he state of the disk might be the problem as it is possible a fragmented disk could cause this sort of error. Thus I am defragmenting the disk twice. I noted that you really have to kill the vdi both with remove in box and delete in XP to dustbin otherwise the file still exists. You also have to reboot before the space os released. Beware!
I will repost after the defrag to let you know if this solves the problems.

Nope! Same error at exactly 86% on expansion despite the disk being clean and having 25gb spare space before allocating the vdi.
In case there is somebody reading this who is very familiar with virtualbox and/or win7 the exact error window says:-
--------------------
An error has occurred during virtual machine execution! The error details are shown below. You can try to correct the described error and resume the virtual machine execution.
Host system reported disk full. VM execution is suspended You can resume after freeing some disk space.
Error ID DevATA_DISKFULL
Severity Non fatal
---------------------------
The mem is set at 768MB and the vdi at 18gb, normal, dynamic currently showing 4,193,353 kb in use.
Geeh, disk full when you hit 4 GB? I wonder, would that be a FAT32 formatted drive you're putting the VDI on? Why on earth would you use that ancient file system? Convert it to NTFS, then the problem will be gone.
OOps!!!!!!
My 1tb SATA (new) fell over on this test m/c and I sent it back for a warranty replacement a few days ago. The backup IDE is a 60GB disk and yes it is FAT32. I thought 4gb was familiar somehow!
You wouldnt think I have been in computers for 40 years would you?
Will convert and try again if I can remember how to FAT to NTFS.
Tks
