Hello everybody!
I am using virtualbox and I would like to connect the host and guest operating systems. That is, assign IP addresses to both them and be able to ping the guest from the host as well as ping the host from the guest.
Both my guest and host operating systems are Windows XP. And my host uses dynamic IP addresses
Thank you.

Re: Connecting Host and Guest in VirtualBox
does bridged mode mean "bridged adapter" in the network tab of the guest?
I tried the bridged adapter, it is not working.

Re: Connecting Host and Guest in VirtualBox
It is possible that the drivers were not loaded properly please reinstall VBox by right clicking the install icon and the select (run as...Admin). Select repair. Reboot after and then see if bridged will work for you. Make sure that your Network adapter shows up in the network settings.

Re: Connecting Host and Guest in VirtualBox
I repiared virtualbox again but there is no change.
I have uploaded the setting and the problem here.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/34513745@N ... 8/sizes/l/ - Problem
Please tell me if I am doing anything wrong. And in fact after changing the setting to Bridged Adapter, I am not even able to access the internet in the guest. When it was NAT, this was possible.
Can anyone actually explain the entire process step by step?
Thank you.

Re: Connecting Host and Guest in VirtualBox
I changed the firewall setting in my guest machine and now I am able to ping the guest from the host.
However now I am not able to ping the host from the guest and I am not able to connect to the internet.

Re: Connecting Host and Guest in VirtualBox
With Bridged, your VM will be a part of the network. So if you want to access the internet from the VM, set the IP configuration similar to the Host. If it uses DHCP, then use DHCP on the Guest too. If it uses static addresses, set a static address on the Guest too.
When some kind of connection fails for Host <> Guest communication, try Host Only (check the manual) and set a second NIC to NAT.

Re: Connecting Host and Guest in VirtualBox
Thanks. Now I am able to connect one XP VM to another XP VM.
I was planning to now extend this, by connecting one XP VM to a Fedora VM. But Fedora is not able to obtain a IP for the connection. Are there any extra steps to follow in Linux?
