I am running ubuntu lamp as a guest on vista host. I have been unable to figure out how to get my guest additions to work
I have tried to open the image and run but i recieve an error message stating that i do not have administrative priviledges and then it closes
I have tried to move this or copy the guest additions files to the home folder but it wont open
I have tried to mount and run the gest additions from terminal manually but after using all command it tells me folder not found
I am stumped can someone help me before i start using virtual pc again which i dont want too..

Re: ubuntu and guest additions
Just run the "autorun.sh" and wait some minutes...

You should use the power you have to find these issues.fonseca44 wrote:I am running ubuntu lamp as a guest on vista host. I have been unable to figure out how to get my guest additions to work

Try Googling this on the Google.com with site:forums.virtualbox.org at the end of the search string.

Re: ubuntu and guest additions
I am using Virtualbox to try to learn to use Linux. You were told to RTFM. Well, I did RTFM and I had the same problem. I tried it more than once. Same result. So I tried to login in as administrator. More than once. Did not help. OK, it took some searching and obviously for somebody who already knows the way it is simple, but entering sudo + space before the command listed ( the one sh ./VBox....) in TFM did the trick. This reminds me that every time I try to get into Linux something like this happens.

- While I feel your pain about being told to do as you state. The real reason that you could not install the GA was a Linux command problem. Linux is a powerful program but it is not for the faint at heart when it comes to install programs or other command line options. Again this is a Linux learning curve problem. Once you have worked with it a while you will be able to do all of the things that need to be done and yes it will require a bit of searching and patience. I have found the easiest way to get to where you need to be with a Linux OS is to subscribe to a forum that supports you operating system. They should have tutorials and other extra information that will not be found here.

I agree with you. I have been programming since 1966 in many languages, some of whose name I even have forgotten. So I am very familiar with learning curves. My problem was with the answer that the originator of the remark received: RTFM. First of all he HAD read TFM ( and the provider of RTFM answer apparently had not acted out the directions to the letter). Secondly, since the person asking for help obviously had problems with Linux (as I had), the answer was not helpful at all.
