Hi guys,
I successfully configured ALSA on the guest Linux Debian (lenny), alsamixer does work and seems to be configurable, all audio files played, but I hear absolutely nothing from the headset. In VirtualBox (v2.2.2) I choose Windows DirectSound + ICH AC97.
Files on host WinXP itself are played fine.
Where might be a problem?
Much thanks!

You need to get the non-free drivers to get the codec to play certain sounds.
Here is a screen shot of the audio setup I have in Lenny for the sound setting.

try to change "Host driver" and "controller " in virtualbox window

I'm stupid, I started alsamixer in console and missed the letter "M" under each column. wich stands for "Mute" according to man page
Please excuse me, all works fine now
