Problems with installing Windows 7
Hi everyone.
I'm having trouble installing the Windows 7 BETA on Virtual Box version 2.2.2.
When I downloaded the file from Microsoft, the file extension was "file.iso.dlm"
I didn't think it would matter, so I tried to make a virtual machine with it. And it made the machine fine.
Just to be safe, I then copied this file and changed the extension to just ".iso" so that I could try both.
I started the machine with the ".iso.dlm" and it started up fine.
It gets to the windows install screen and this is what I get.
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now."
I have the CD mounted. I don't know what the problem is.
I get the same error with the .iso machine.
Any help?

Re: Problems with installing Windows 7
The .dlm extension is from a download manager. It may be that since it still has the extension you have not completed the entire download process for the manager.
I would try to download the RC of Win 7 and try again, this time using HTTP instead of the DLM.

Re: Problems with installing Windows 7
If he's booting the installer, it's not an issue with the ISO image. In fact, I get the same error message. My host OS is Win XP 64-bit, and since other people have been able to install and use Windows 7 build 7100, I must assume that the poster that is having trouble - is using Xp-64 like me. Can anyone else confirm this is a problem with XP-64 (Host) running VB 2.2.2, attempting to install Windows 7 build 7100 (32-bit)?

7100.0.090421-1700_x86fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1c.iso is 2,471,656 KB in size. BTW, forgot to mention in previous post that this same image worked flawlessly using it with VMware Fusion on my Mac.

Try burning iso on a cd an try to start your hardware with if. So you can see, if the iso is ok.

Note: be aware that there are w7 images out there pre-infected with a nice rootkitted worm.

Re: Problems with installing Windows 7
I have the exact same issue. My .iso file is the same size as the original poster's. I've tried to install from both .iso on hard drive as well as directly from a burned DVD.
Is there a solution?
Thanks

I think this topic should be moved in "Windows Guest".

Re: Problems with installing Windows 7
First if this is a 64 bit version of Win 7 it more than likely has the XP hypervisor built in and this could be a problem. While you could load this as a primary it will not install inside VirtualBox as it is a hypervisor. I have ( and a lot of others) tried to install a hypervisor inside VirtualBox with no success.
Now if it is 64 bit and let's just say it does not have the hypervisor you would need to make sure that your bios supports hardware virtualization, and has the VT-x/AMD-v turned on.

Yes, I've tried to install the W7 64bit version on a 64bit Linux with AMD-V enabled.
