win7 RC - no audio, no Aero

I have installed VB (last version) on my Vista 32bit Toshiba Satellite 200A.
In VB set up a VM with Windows 7 Release Candidate, that was just brought out by Microsoft.
I get no audio and cannot activate Aero. The latest VB drivers don't solve the problem.
By the messages I get it seems to be a driver problem.
How do I know what drivers to install?
After all the graphics card shown in Win7 is the Virtualbox "virtual" card and not my real one.
I guess the same is true for the soundcard.
Needless to say that in my Vista host system both sound and Aero work flawlessly.
It's true that in the manual on VB's website the latest OS mentioned as supported for Guest Additions is Win7 Beta. Could it be I have to wait for SUN to bring out a Win7 RC compatible guest additions ISO, or is there a way to solve the driver problem now?
Any help is appreciated.

I have the same question with you. You can install the audio driver manually to solve the problem. Just wait the next version of VB support the guest Windows 7 RC well and hope the guest additional graphics driver could support the WDDM 1.1!

Sound needs Realtek AC 97 Driver => Search Function.

Aero does not work in any VM.

I've set up a Windows 7 RC twice in VB. The first time it downloaded the sound driver during my first Windows update, but sound was working on the second install right away.

For Audio you need to let Windows 7 download the required AC97 drivers through Windows Update. Areo isn't supported because of missing support of DirectX 10 in VirtualBox right now.

I installed wn7 64 bit as a guest on an ubuntu desktop 9.04 64 host, and I had the no-audio problem (red x on my speaker icon in the system tray). Win7 updates didn't find anything.

I resolved it easily by googling "ac97 driver" and choosing a link on the realtek site. I downloaded the driver (26MB), unzipping the archive, and used Device Manager to search that folder for a driver. Problem solved. I now have good audio through my ubuntu host.

I recently installed Win7 RC on my VB 2.2.4 but cant get audio. I tried updating the audio driver but it kept replying that the best driver is already installed (Microsoft). So, from one of the postts here, I manually downloaded realtek ac'97 driver and updated my guest audio driver - to no effect. Is there any other woraround/ solution ?

No other solution, because that works. Try deleting the audio hardware in the device manager and start a new hardware search.

You have checked to be sure that the sound is not muted and that the volume is turned up, right? In the device manager does it show the famous (yellow !) or any other conflict indicators?

Well....For some reason, mine works quiet differently here..

I installed the 64 bit version of windows 7 RC today, and i googled the sound driver as other people mentioned above. Then when i click install, windows 7 keeps giving a warning window saying that the driver is not safe...and keeps asking me if i want to isntall it or not. I keep clicking yes, but the progress bar won't move at all, and i've been clicking yes for at least 50 times.. and i can see that the CPU is at 100% and hard drive light is on. But nothing moves...

any idea on how to fix this? at first i thought it was the UAC, so i turned it off, but it still didn't help...

Yes. I checked the mutting, volume and etc and also checked from the configure option. I tried both online and directed (to downloaded realtek folder) updating, then tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the hardware - nothing is working. Lastly, I installed guest additions and still no result. On device manager checking , reply is the device is working properly and windows update wont supply any updated driver because it says I have the latest driver available. Any other suggestions?

With the drivers install you then need to do a Windows update check, so it will install the MS version of the drivers. When you first open it it will say that you have the latest updates, but look for the link that tells it to check anyway, then it will find the right driver for you. Try that and see if it works for you.

I installed the realtek AC'97 driver with no effects. Then as per your suggestion I upgraded the driver - windows keeps replacing the realtek driver with MS driver (Inter(r) 82801 AA AC'97) audio controller. And afterwards, there is still no sound.

If you have the audio enabled in the VBox guest settings with all of these steps followed the only other thing I can think of is to check to make sure that the audio is not muted in the Windows audio control. Aero is not going to work yet. Maybe in future versions.

I'm having audio problems too. My problem stems from Win7RC not even seeing the sound card device, so trying to install drivers for a non-existent sound card just doesn't work. I tried both the AC97 and the Soundblaster 16 sound cards, neither works. I've also run guest additions. Mind you, that was a bit of a trap for new players; it didn't dawn on me that this has to be run for every machine you create. I'd run it for a Win 2000 professional install (in which the sound works fine) and hadn't run it for Win7 RC. Still, it made no difference. I've used Win7RC's trouble shooter to output the registry entries for all audio devices in its registry, but to be honest, I don't really know what I should be looking for. I've checked all the obvious stuff (like muting, volume, etc) but Win7 RC just doesn't see the card, so no driver is loaded. Again, because there is no soundcard, Win update doesn't try to download updated drivers, which makes perfect sense.
