I have Windows Whistler 2296 on VirtualBox. It says the only resolutions I can use are 640x400 16 color and 800x600 16 color. Looking through older posts, I saw I needed VB Guest Additions. It will not autoplay, so I open the CD and double click on the setup icon. I get an hourglass for 3 seconds, then it goes away. No disk activity from the guest. I wait 15 minutes and still no setup. Please help, Whistler will not work in 16 colors right unless i use the old scheme.
PS. I use Leopard, VB Version 2.2.2.
PSS. Whistler is a beta XP. Very rare. I cannot tell you where to find it however, for legal reasons

Copy the CD contents to your harddisk and run it from there.

OK, I did that. Still, it will not load. I monitored the processes and for a split second it appears, then goes away.

You may need windows installer 3.0 or better, or admin rights to install stuff. Run the installer on another simuliar VM, then copy over the drivers/inf files(or unpack the msi GA install file), right click on the inf files to install or manually via device manager.

I am a admin on Whistler. Where can I get Windows Installer 3.0? I don't have any other Windows OS's to run to install GA on it, except Chicago, which sucks .

It says I can only install on build 2600, the real XP. I do not own the real XP, I only have a bunch of testing builds. With 2.0, it says "Wrong OS or OS application." 1.0 works with Windows 3.1 (Janus) only!

Then you need to pull the install file apart to get the components to install manually, maybe someone can make you a zip.

How? ResourceHacker? It is a .exe (executable, e.g. Calc.exe), not a msi.

By running the exe, which extracts everything before installing, even after installing enough is left behind to zip-up.

OK, i will try in about 4-5 hours (4:30 here)

Can anybody give me the drivers for the graphics? Even if I extract the resources, i still cannot find the driver. I checked my Event Log and it said that it failed to start because of an invaild manifest. 2 of them give me that, while one does not load at all.

How much memory does GA install need? I gave it 256MB.

Should be enough but you can try 512.

I still won't launch . Please, sombody, find me a driver and upload it on Rapidshare or something. Please????
