OpenGL not working for display effects!

I have Ubuntu 9.04 with KDE 4.2 guest running in VirtualBox 2.2.2 all installed on a Windows XP service pack 2 HOST. I have been knocking my head against the wall trying to get OpenGL rendering to work while in KDE 4.2. I have confirmed that glxgears works at around 1300FPS so I know OpenGL is working. But, whenever I try to enable OpenGL as the compositing type for desktop effects I get a message stating "Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values.". I need to add that if I use GNOME as the desktop I can activate full desktop effects and they work great within that session desktop. Lastly, I will add this, I have had the exact same issue with an installed version of OpenSuse 11.1. If in either booted OS, be it OpenSuse or Ubuntu, if I set the compositing type as XRender it work, but it's sloooowwwww.

This seems very much like an issue with VirtualBox but I could be wrong. I am a noooobee. Any help here would be great. How do I get the OpenGL set as the compositing type while in KDE? Thanks

Actually it is an issue with KDE and what they use for composite. Work is being done to improve this and hopefully will be out soon. After all this is still new and for the most part experimental.

Just trying to keep you from doing damage to your head. :)

If you want to have nice effects in KDE, ditch it's own composite options and install Compiz-Fusion. I have that on Xfce, runs just fine.
