promiscuous mode in guest doesn't work using intel pro nic

Post by vbtroy »

Using VB 2.2.2 on Centos 5.3, with a guest running Centos 4.4, I observed that tcpdump in the guest did not work when I'd set it up with a Intel Pro 1000 T Server NIC. But when I switched the guest to the PCnet-PCI III nic, it can tcpdump traffic just fine. Is this more likely a driver problem in the guest or a VB bug?

Wasted a whole day on this one..

Please google for that NIC. Someone else here had the same issue where I think bridging didn't work, because he/she had an Intel/PRO NIC on the Host. This is an issue in the Linux driver.
