Virtualbox Hangs except through RDP

I am running the latest version of virtualbox available in the ubuntu Repos. I don't have acceleration enabled. I am trying to run The Sims (the original series, not The Sims 2) and it doesn't require acceleration or anything. It installs properly, starts properly and then causes Virtualbox to hang, except it isn't completely hung. I can see that the window is still animating, and the music is still playing. I can even connect via RDP and play the game (just delayed, since it is over the network.) My question is, does anyone know how to fix this so that I can play this locally rather than having to resort to using RDP? Also, while the sims is running, I can't do anything with the main virtualbox window. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
