I use Vista x64 as host and XP Prof. 32bit as guest system.
I lost my Vista Virtualbox installation, but I still got my virtual HardDisks and Machines with all Snapshots!
Now I can only get an old snapshot running, but not the latest one...how can I import the machine and snapshot files properly so I can use the latest snapshot?
There were a lot of changes between the current snapshot and the one which seems to be running.
Thank you!!

Re: Lost Virtualbox installation. Howto Recover VM with backup?
I got the same problem...
It's very odd that virtual box doesn't have a "simple" (lol) import old VMs feature.
What's even more odd is saving changes to the guest in the snapshot file rather than on the actual VDI!!!
I hope Sun will address these issues for their future releases.
Anyway, is there anyone with a solution to this debacle?

Re: Lost Virtualbox installation. Howto Recover VM with backup?
A basic recovery is as simple as creating a new VM and attaching the VDI to it. When it comes to snapshots it gets a bit more tedious but not impossible.
1. Create a new VM and attach a COPY from your backup VDI
2. run the VM and create as many snapshots as you need to recover.
3. shut VBox down
4. Replace VDI from backup (see 1)
5. Recover snapshots by manually editing the machine.xml file and replacing vdi files/uuid/path info.

Re: Lost Virtualbox installation. Howto Recover VM with backup?
Thanks for that.
I decided to start over though... and just set up the thing again.
However, I was playing around with it myself last night and realized that if I had my old virtualbox.xml I could've easily done it. I tried modifying the current virtualbox.xml and [machine].xml to match up all the UUIDs, and got somewhere, but hit a wall in the end.
I hope Sun develop a proper solution for this in future releases.
Thanks for the help tho!
