Guest System requires Mouse movement to process

Dear All
I have installed WIN98 on a Virtual Machine, but the process seems to stop or slowdown to a crawl when there is no mousemovemnet or keyboard input. It is as if the system goes into a resource saving mode or something that slows down the virtual machines processor clock. Has anybody experienced this effect, I have no Idea how to make it work without contantly moving the mouse.
