Try booting in safe mode and see if you can get it to boot.
Then see how much free disk space you have on the guest.

Is there anyway that you can scan this for virus as vbox4me2 says. It does show up on the boards as a possible problem.

Yes that would get rid of it if it is a virus.

If you don't care what the problem is you can delete the VDI and it will get ride of your problem, but you should be able to boot the machine in safe mode with network and then scan the drive via network to see if it really is a virus. Also booting in safe mode will allow you to see if there are other problems. If on the other hand it will not boot in safe mode you have fewer choices of what your next move should be.

There are liveCDs from Linux that allow you to scan your computer for virusses. Use one of those to scan the VM.
