I'm trying to set up XP as a guest operating system, on a Ubuntu 9.04 host, installed on an Acer Aspire 7730 laptop. Everything is working, except for glitchy/choppy audio when played from the guest. It's most noticeable when playing back from Finale (music notation software, the main reason for needing Windows), but also with other audio sources, and even with a different virtual machine with Ubuntu installed. Also, it's equally a problem whether playing through Pulseaudio or Alsa with the laptop audio hardware, or with a USB sound card assigned to the guest OS, and giving the guest up to 1GB of memory doesn't help.
Any ideas?
