Now i really need help! VB is completly broken

Post by ronnys »

Hi!
I was running VB 2.1.4 on SLES11 64bits. I had to install VB from installtion script and not from rpm-package.
Intall WinXP Pro since i need some Windows-only apps at work.
This was working greate!

Then when i start VB a pop-up tells me there is a new version; 2.2
Downloaded the new one and installed it. No error-msg!

Now my XP-installation refuse to start at all. VB-completly lock up and i have to kill it.
I tought maybe the virt harddrive become corrupt, so i create a new VM but this also refuse to start at all.
I give up and installed the old version again, but now the version 2.1.4 crash during start.

Now i install back the new one and im back in the same problem. VB Manager starts ok, but no VMs works.
How can i uninstall VB completely så i can get 2.1.4 work again or is it possible to make 2.2 work?
The strange thing is that VB doesn't show up in Yast Software Manager nor searching with zypper, so i can't uninstall it.

When installing through the .run file, the package manager won't be called upon so it doesn't know about the installation of that 'package'. You have to remove the older version first, by running the .run file and give the option "uninstall" or "remove" (without quotes) on the command line. That will remove everything from VB of that version. Then you can install the new version.

Have you tried the SLES 10 package on SLES 11? It might work.

Ok! I will try first to uninstall and then install the latest version. I guess to existing XP-VM is dead and i need to reinstall.

Now i see i used SLES11. I meant SLED11. SLED11 doesnt have any repository from Virtualbox.
Maybe there is i way to add the VB repos in SLED11 like it is in OpenSUSE11.1

There is no repo from VB for SLED. There is only a package on the website for SLES 10. You can try that on your SLED 11 install.
