This might be a stupid question...

I'm planning on wiping Windows off of all of my computers, which currently dual boot with Linux, because I have only used it for some website making software that will not run in Wine, and a few games, my question is could I transfer my licenses from those computers to a VM on that computer so that I wouldn't have to re-boot to use that software? I know that I would need to buy 1 XP Cd so that I could install, so I will have at least one machine that I know I'll be able to run. (All of those computers are store-bought, so they are all OEM, which I've heard can be very troublesome)

Or could I create the VM on a portable Harddrive and move it between 2 computers (Laptop and Desktop)

Ugh... I'm hating Microsoft's Licensing schemes, they make things much harder than they should be, I've gotten used to having 1 Linux CD and being able to install it on as many machines as I want... if only ReactOS didn't break when Guest additions are installed... and had sound support.

It all depends on the version of windows, OEM's mostly check the hardware its running on and if that doesn't match it wont activate, sometimes these OEM's can be activated manually by calling MS. Regardless what version they all will trigger reactivation when moved to a VM.

I'll try that when I get home, if no one else has posted, I'll just edit this post.

I sure hope that I could make it work. Maybe try the ID Numbers on the back of the computers.
