I am using virtual box on windows home premium sp1. I have installed windows 7 rc on it with no problems so i thought. I had windows 7 beta and all was well. I removed windows 7 beta before i installed rc. I am finding that windows 7 is running at 100% cpu, the beta did not. I have 1024mbs set for ram (home premium has 3gigs of ram) I allocated the video card to 32mbs- is this ok? it was at the default before.

I am also finding I have no sound in windows 7 rc, i did when i had windows 7 beta. I used both settings in virtualbox but nada.

I also find it takes a bit to hook up to wireless networking, it stalls then finally hooks in.

Am i using the correct configurations as stated above? and how do i get sound back. I have installed the guest additions but still no sound.

I have sounds but when I have them they are choppy or late (I can log in before the vista tone happens). I left my settings at the same as they were for the previous beta. I'm just hoping these bugs will be tweaked out as fast a virtual box's turnaround. Try putting in the guest additions. I only warn you that for whatever reason clicking do not restart ,restarts in windows 7 for the additions( ).

Go out to the realtek website http://www.realtek.com.tw and download the latest winvista/win7 ac'97 drivers and install those. Thats what I did and sound is perfect in my Win7 RC install on vbox now.

what do you mean "clicking do not restart"
I put in the additions- it did not make a difference

do you install these drivers on windows 7which is the guest or my host windows vista home premium?

Also why is the cpu usage up so high in windows 7 rc- it never was in windows beta?

Here is the link above to the download. Just grab the driver from the vista/win7 row of the table. After you have installed the guest additions into your Win7 RC and rebooted then install these realtek drivers into Win7 guest os. You will then have sound. Also as far as the high cpu usage goes I do not experience that. In all actuallity my Win7 RC x64 install uses way less resources then my Vista SP1 x64 install does in vbox. Does your cpu support hardware virtualization and if it does is it enabled in your bios and also enabled in you Win7 RC guest settings. I have this enabled in my bios and guest so that may be why I dont experience high cpu usage. You need to look for something called VT-x or AMD-V. Remember your cpu has to be able to support those extensions otherwise turning the option on in vbox won't matter.

there is no virtulization on this laptop but i installed virtual box because i was told it handles non virtulization better than virtual pc 2007 and that was true in windows 7 beta as the guest. It ran fine and did not have a high cpu neither did the host. The host is NOT running hot at all. It is windows 7 rc that is, as the guest.
