Accessing physical harddrives from within XP-Guest

Hi all,

I'm kinda new here, so please don't hit me when I put my question in the wrong section.

First I will explain my situation:
I run Ubuntu for 90% of time, but for some applications Linux does not have the right program to do the same I can do now. One of these things is Newsleecher and its supersearch functionality. I pay for it and therefor want to use it.

I made a Virtualbox-XP machine (the standard way), but size is limited.

I installed Guest Additions and everything seems to be fine, BUT:

When I change the download location in Newsleecher to "VBOXSVRData on VirtualBox Shared Folders\Newsleecher\Leech" (in which Data is the name of the disk the downloaded data should go to), the data I leech gets written to "C:\VBOXSVR\Data\Newsleecher\Leech", which means my VirtualBox runs full in no time.
Does anybody have any Idea what could go wrong?

I just want to write the leeched data from Newsleecher (in Virtualbox-XP) to another harddrive in my computer.

I hope I explained my problem clear enough.

Best regards,
Mischa

It looks like you are writing to the VM disk(local) and not to the virtualbox shared folder, it is better to map a driveletter to it and then within the leech software point to this driveletter, see the Manual and FAQ how to map a driveletter. What you see now is called a UNC path and maybe leech can't deal with that.

Okay, I was already thinking something like that.

In Newsleecher I set the path to save the data to twice, but it refuses to do so. Maybe mapping the network drive would solve the problem. Ik think this is done the same way as you map shared network folders within Windows? I did that before, so it should not be a problem, otherwise I will check the manual.

Best regards,
Mischa

Hi vbox4me2,

Do I have to say you're great??
Your suggestion worked out good for me.

Thanks again.
