VBox 2.2.2/Ubuntu 9.0.4 - Windows Resizing change

Short version: I was previously able to stretch a Windows guest across my extended desktop. After VBox and Ubuntu upgrades, I no longer can.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.0.4 (Jaunty), and VirtualBox 2.2.2. My previous versions were Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid), and I believe the VBox version was 2.1.4.
The windows guest is XP Pro/SP3 (this is unchanged).
The GPU is an Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT. The host driver is version Nvidia X Server 180.44. It is running in "Twinview" mode.
I'm running 2 24" wide monitors, 1900 x 1200.
In the old software configuration, if I was doing pure Windows work, I could stretch the Guest window across the extended desktop on both monitors, and the VM would adjust the resolution to match. In the new configuration, it allows a maximum resolution of 1904 x 1123 (as reported in the windows Display Properties dialogue). This is approximately the maximum size that will fit on a single monitor.
Being able to span my extended desktop was useful, and I would like to get this capability back if possible. Does anyone know how to make that work in these newer versions?
Thank you,
Mike

Install the new guest additions.

Thanks, but that was an omission on my part. I did install the guest additions again (I had installed them in the VM with the earlier VBox version, but assumed they might be updated), and this issue still occurs.

Look in /var/log/ and copy the vboxadd-install log. Only send the last 1/2 because it is more than likely rather large. Put it here and don't forget to use the code blocks.

I've provided the last part, but the data on this file says that it was last modified in February, which is when I installed version 2.1.4.
When I mouse over the virtual box guest additions icon in the windows guest system tray, it says it is version 2.2.2r46594
I will apologize in advance, but I don't know what code blocks (disable BBCode? - I did that).

So when you installed the guest additions did it ask you to allow the install of anything and did it tell you to reboot at the end of the install?
You might want to reinstall the guest additions in the guest and see if it asks for uninstall or repair. Select repair if it asks. If you are not asked to repair then the install did not happen.

When I do the install, a dialogue pops up and shows several different installations being done. I'm prompted 2 times to allow the installation of non-Logo software. At the end, it does ask me to reboot. It does not ask if I want to repair the installation, it just seems to run through it again. There are no error messages in the output to this dialogue.
Interestingly, the "Install Guest Additions" from the "Device" menu does not do anything now. I had to initiate this last install by going to "My Computer", and double clicking the Guest additions drive.
Many of things that you expect from the guest additions do happen (mouse capture not required, for example). The only thing that I notice is that I have lost the ability to expand the VM display across the entire available desktop, and this was working in 2.1.4.
Thanks,
Mike

My windows resizing works straight away with Ubuntu 9.04 and VB 2.2.2... I did a fresh install rather than an upgrade from 8.10, however.
