hi everybody
I've been investigating this for a while and decided to give it a shot with you here since I couldnt find something relevant
I am using Slackware as a host and XP as a guest on virtualbox 2.2
I will try to describe my problem as follows:
- everytime when I try to connect to my guest os (having a ftp server) through the ftp cmd line client in host os it hangs out after inserting the user name
this is a wireshark capture while trying to connect to my guest ftpd http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/6972/loggingissue.png
- everytime when I try to connect from my guest os through putty to my sshd/ftpd in my host os ... I insert the ip and port, click connect and then a black screen is displayed (in putty) ... checking netstat in linux (host os) shows an established connection between guest and host
- similarly .. after I establish a tcp connection on port, let's say 5555 through netcat and trying to chat it works only from guest to host ... if I type something from host that something won't be displayed on the guest screen (as I said before viceversa works )
note that ping works from guest to host and from host to guest ...
can I hear someone's opinion about this ?
thanks a million !
later edit: I am using bridge networking (as you can see in the png from that link)
tcp connection hangs between guest and host

Try the other Guest VM network adapters.

@bluerratiq
I am experiencing a very similar issue with bridge networking. Not with same OS's you are using, but same experience. Hopefully we are reporting this to the right forum. See my post http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17362 and a very similar "ticket" created by someone else http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3465 which appears to have gone unaddressed.
And if you notice, your IP's are getting munged up somehow just like what is being reported in my post and the ticket above.

Re: tcp connection hangs between guest and host
yeap ... just tried one my home computer .. I have a similar setup gentoo as host and XP as guest and it works without a problem!
It looks to me as a non virtual box issue .. but still searching and investigating!

Re: tcp connection hangs between guest and host
Hi,
Is there any update on this issue? I'm having the same problem.
Host: CentOS 5.3 (64 bit)
Guest: Windows XP and Solaris Express snv_115
Regards,
Habib

@habibv
I was having the same issue with CentOS 4.7. Tried everything to get it to work. Poked around on the CentOS forums for a while but found nothing. I finally gave up, went to FC10 as host and everything works without problem.
Sounds pretty much like a CentOS issue based on what I experienced and others in this thread.
