Guest->Host Internet Connection, Win7 Host, Ubuntu Guest

Post by mbraun88 »

Hi - I'm running Windows 7 RC1 64-bit as my host and Ubuntu 9.04 amd64 as my guest in the latest VirtualBox.

For my job, I run a server that accepts incoming telnet connections (on port 2000) inside the guest. I want to connect to it from outside the guest (from Windows 7). However, it isn't working. Unable to ping the guest.

Ifconfig in guest shows:

eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 08:00:27:bc:c7:cc
inet addr:10.0.2.15 Bcast:10.0.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::a00:27ff:febc:c7cc/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:25 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:40 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:3914 (3.9 KB) TX bytes:5539 (5.5 KB)

I'm connected by NAT according to the VM settings. However, in Windows 7 under Network Connections I only see my LAN and "Virtualbox Host Only Network", which has no IPv4/IPv6 connectivity. Is this right?

Really appreciate the help, thanks!

Woohoo, works now!

Just curious, is NAT meant to not work in this manner? Bridged counts against me for computers I can have plugged in on campus, so if there's a way to NAT it, it's preferred.

Read the Manual what NAT and Bridge is, each has its ups and downs.
