Hello,
I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to troubleshoot my Internet connection from a guest OS. I can connect to the host OS (10.0.2.2) - for example, I have network drives mapped from the Windows guest to a samba service on my Linux host at 10.0.2.2. However, I recently discovered I can no longer access the internet from the guest...this is a new problem. I don't think I've had any problem with this before VirtualBox version 2.2.2.
My connection is via NAT.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Can't access Internet from guest OS
First check the VirtualBox FAQ for known issues. Second, check the IP config of the Guest. Does it really have an IP address? With 2.2.0 and 2.2.2, some Linux Guests seem to fail every now and then to get an IP address from the internal DHCP server. Running dhclient will fix that. Windows Guests should not have this issue.

Re: Can't access Internet from guest OS
Try these two tests
does
ping forums.virtualbox.org
work?
and
ping 78.46.147.154
if the second works but the first complains something like
"ping: cannot resolve forums.virtualbox.org"
Then its a dns issue look at /etc/resolv.conf
Oh also which linux is this?

Some say: "You learn as long as you live".
My way: "You live as long as you learn".

Thanks for the replies.
I did try following some of the steps in the FAQ having to do with cleaning up dkms/vboxnetflt after upgrading to 2.2.2. It didn't seem to have any effect, even after a full reboot. However, the next morning (I think after rebooting again) it seems to be working fine again. Maybe it was something wrong with the ISP?
FWIW, this is with Fedora 10, x86_64.
