unmount DVD when machine is off?

Post by Henry-Reiser2 »

Hi,

I have the problem that when starting my VM I get an error message about a Secondary Master. I did some search on the ticket system and found a ticket that exactly describes my problem:
http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3401

As a suggestion a DVD drive is mentioned. That would make sense since I upgraded my firmware before starting the VM again, so I think that maybe the firmware or some other stuff is written in the VM machine description and now it cannot boot as the info has changed.

Would that make sense? If so, the solution would be to unmount the CD drive. However, since I cannot start the VM how can I unmount the drive?

Thanks for your help,

Henry

In the VBox settings for that guest. Click on the CD and take the tick out of mount the CD.

Hey, thanks for your prompt reply. Problem is the machine is in a Saved State, meaning that the settings button is greyed out. Since the machine will not start I don´t know how to properly power-off the machine. Any ideas? I have tried reverting it to the last snapshot (it was in the Current State Changed situation), but that didn´t help.

Thanks for any help,

Rainer

Brutal poweroff from saved state:
In vb gui select the machine then press discard button above.
This might loose your changes so first make a backup of the drive contents.
Some say: "You learn as long as you live".
My way: "You live as long as you learn".

[Solved] Re: unmount DVD when machine is off?

baf,

Thanks so much. This worked! I first thought that discard meant to discard the entire VM, that would have been quite a loss of time, but it actually only discarded the changes, that was bearable. I have now mounted the DVD drive again and that worked flawless. Next time I do a firmware update I will unmount drives first.

Do I need to set the status of this topic to Solved somewhere?

Thanks

Rainer
