VBoxSDL crashes Windows XP guest on Ubuntu Server host
Posted: 5. May 2009, 17:21
I have VirtualBox 2.2 running on a Ubuntu 9.04 Server.
Grub is configured with the vga=795 variable to force a high resolution (1280x1024 24bit).
To run my Windows guest I use "sudo VBoxSDL -startvm winxp". This uses the framebuffer to run the OS and seems to work quite ok.
However, when I shutdown the Windows guest it locks up at the shutdown screen. I have no idea why.
I suddenly get 2 mouse-cursors again and after a few seconds they both lock. Numlock also can't be switched on and off anymore.
The system log says something about the MTRR
When I run the same Windows XP guest through VirtualBox in X/Gnome, it works fine as well and also shuts down normally.
Would someone be able to give me advice on what causes VBoxSDL to crash this way?
These are my settings:
ACPI: Enabled
IO APIC: Disabled
VT-x: Enabled
Nested Paging: Disabled
PAE: Disabled
3D: Disabled
IDE: PIIX4
