Is there any way to have USB support working?

Post by megaloman »

Hi,

I am trying to get USB support working on Fedora 10 i386 with guest os Windows XP, I am using VirtualBox 2.2.0.

I've added line:

Code: Select all

none /sys/bus/usb/drivers	usbfs	rw,devgid=800,devmode=644	0 0
to the /etc/fstab file (note 800 is a group id for vbxusers group) and usb support still does not work, I cannot mount devices under XP.

I've tried to add blank filter, or filters for specific devices - without any luck.

Is there anybody who know a working solution for this issue?
Why this does not work out of the box when VirtualBox get installed?

thanks in advance,
Marek

USB is not supported in the OSE version. You need the PUEL version of Vbox.

I am using rpm file downloaded from virtualbox.org, not one shipped with Fedora. if that's wrong version, which one is the correct one?

If the device works in Fedora 10 then you must have a problem in the settings for the guest or you have not installed the guest additions. Check that you have checked the proper boxes in the guest settings under USB and that you have installed the guest additions and let me know.

Currently I have two boxes: Fedora 10 and Fedora 11, both the same issue.

Guest Additions are installed, in guest settings I am adding filters, removing filters, adding specific filter for a device or dummy filter for any device - nothing works. Nothing. USB devices list is greyed and nothing can be selected.

yes, it does.

I've tested CF card reader, Kingston Data Traveller pen drive and WD Passport External Hard drive - all this devices work fine on the host, I can't access them from the guest - they appear on the list, but still - list is greyed and nothing can be selected.
