I have tried to install Virtual Box 2.2.2 on Vista Ultimate with no success. I have 2.2.0 installed and have downloaded 2.2.2 but installer completes with errors and rolls back without installing. I have check md5sum successfully, rebooted with no luck. Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Sun xVM VirtualBox. Product Version: 2.2.2. Product Language: 1033. Installation success or error status: 1603.

Google results show this problem Installation success or error status: 1603

I just downloaded 2.2.2 and the installed failed like this. On XP over the top of 2.2.0. Anyone any idea why? I have plenty of disk space.

Well I was able to get by this by following another post in the forums. I did a repair install on 2.20 then rebooted; after which 2.2.2 installed fine.

I tried rever75 fix to no avail.

OS: Vista Ultimate (64bit)

I tried to repair, reboot install
I can't uninstall 2.2.0 either, that's locked on my system somehow.

I tried running CCLeaner to maybe fix it, didn't work.

Do i really have to go to MS KB do all that junk like deleting drivers?

This is bad news

although not advised, this fixed my issue. I feel stupid for not trying it
