When I try to install guest addition I get a message saying that my version of X server is not recognized. My host system is a Dell Inspiron13 laptop, host OS is Ubuntu 9.04, guest OS is Ubuntu 9.04. Any suggestions?

The Host machine is Hardy Heron. The guest is Lenny. The Guest Additions require kernel 2.6.27. Lenny is a brand new release and is only at 2.6.26. Is there an earlier version of Guest Additions we can download?

Could you post a screen shot of the error showing that?
My Lenny is working fine with the version 2.2.2 and GA

The problem was that the command

apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic

failed because it couldn't find linux-headers-generic. My headers are linux-headers-2.6-686. I loaded the headers using Synaptic Package Manager without realizing that the build-essential package had also been skipped.

The Guest Additions appear to have installed now.
