Im running ubuntu 9.04 and i have an xbox360 that I use to play my movies and music as well. When I used vista I had it wired to my laptop to stream the media. Now that I switched to Linux its not that easy to do it. So i wanted to try running vista as a guest using VBox but my issue is getting the ethernet port on my laptop to work with VBox in order to create the network. Im new to linux, but i am an advanced computer user. So can anybody help me out with suggestions gettin this problem fixed either on VBox or in linux in general.

Set the guest to use Bridged mode.
Setup Vista Firewall to allow the connection and Vista to allow the VBox to have access.
Performance may be an issue though, but it is doable.

Not much to explain. Just go to the VBox settings and change what ever you have for your network adapter to bridged.

Boot Vista, make sure that you can get to the Internet and that you can ping your host.
Open Vistas firewall (windows defender) Leave it up and then fire up the Xbox.
It has to be on the network too so I assume you have a switch or something because you said you had done this before.
Then just set Vista to allow the media share and it should all auto detect.
You may need to wait for several minutes before the two units try to sync.

No difference at all once you get VBox setup in Bridged.
Just the performance issue of all the overhead. Might work though.
