issues with "bridging" and DHCP

Post by rctay »

I'm running VB 2.2.2 on a Windows XP host. In my Ubuntu guest, I can't get it to reach the Internet.

I've enabled VB's dhcp server, and the VirtualBox Host-Only Adapter is enabled.

Here's the guest's /etc/network/interfaces:

Code: Select all

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
It can't seem to find the dhcp server (no DHCPOFFERS received).

What could be the problem?

Hi,

upon re-reading the manual, I'd like to check if a physical network switch is required for bridging to work. I'm not connected to one.

Yes, otherwise install the MS loopback adapter, see the FAQ's.
