DriveImage XML image into Virtualbox

Hi all -
SPECS:
Host Machine: Ubuntu 9.04
Guest Machine: Windows XP (hopefully)
Here's what I need to accomplish: I have a fresh cloned image of Windows XP that I created through Driveimage XML (
http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm). I would like to get this fresh image of XP into Virtualbox.
I tried using a BartPE bootable CD (which has a plugin for Driveimage XML) to clone the XP image to my new Virtualbox hard drive, but DiXML doesn't see the Virtualbox disk. I'm guessing that it's looking for some sort of NTFS partition...
It's confusing to explain, but hopefully that's enough info to start. Anybody have an idea?
Thanks.

Did you create a virtual disk for the VM?

Yes I did. Then I booted the BartPE CD inside the VM.

Make sure the VM disk is set to IDE only, bartPE usually does not have sata drivers. I can't recall if bartpe can partition an empty disk, you might need the gparted iso for that as I don't know if dXML can restore to a non formatted ntfs disk.

So, if I understand you correctly - use the GParted disc to boot into the VM, format the virtual drive as NTFS, and then boot up with BartPE?

Yep, don't forget to make the partition active after dxml restore with gparted or it won't boot.

Cool! Thanks for your help. I'll try that out and post back the results.

Okay, back.
I've been having a problem with DiXML - it says it needs to restore an image in a drive that is equal to or larger than the target drive (the DiXML image is 80GB). Looks like I accidentally copied blank space when I did my initial backup.
BUT, this theory did solve my original problem of getting a DiXML image into Virtualbox.

I'm pretty sure drive xml will format the drive but It freaks out and doesn't complete. I tried to use drive xml to tranfer my files to an external and the drive was exfat , it tried to format it and the timer went from 6hr's to 20 and never completed.

Just trying to look at pics for it but It doesn't look as friendly as DXML. They make this bart pe capable and friendlier looking and maybe I'll try this. Filezilla(an ftp program) is a sweet program(though I'm sure they are not related) .
