guest additions install fails

My host os is ubuntu 8.10, I installed VBox 2.0.4 because it was the only one I can install at this time cause all of the links are down. I installed CentOS 5.3 as the guest OS in VBox. I am getting unable to build kernel module error, I check the install log and see that kernel configuration is invalid. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

Yea, I've been through that. I am unable to do anything, all I ever get is that error. I uninstalled virtualbox from my system until I can get the updated versions.
