virtual drive or virtual partition

Hi,

I've just installed VB on a fresh install of Ubuntu. I'm very new to VB and have a quick question. The .vdi is the file for the virtual drive, but isn't it actually for the virtual partition and not the drive, since a physical drive can have multiple partitions?

Makes no difference, the VDI contains whatever you put on there, ofcourse it contains a partition as well.

Correct. To the guest system it is a normal harddrive connected via ide/sata/scsi or whatever you have chosen
