Solaris 10 SPARC installation on WinXP host

Hello,

I have a Virtualbox 2.2.r45946 on my WinXP laptop and wish to install Solaris 10SPARC on it. The reason is that I am working with a tool at work which is packaged for SPARC architecture only

So actually my question is maybe more like : Is it possible to emulate a SPARC architecture with VirtualHost running over Windows host ?

While desperately trying to get it working I have been wondering what would be the commercial interest of SUN for providing a VM which would enable to emulate SPARC archi over x86... and by the way offer the option to avoid buying the f... expensive SPARC stuff :?:
I would actually understand why they don't do it

But the confusing point is it seems possible as Operating System version offers OpenSolaris and Solaris.

I have tried to install a DVD image of my solaris 10 SPARC, burned the DVD and even get some CD image of the release but no way : can't get the VM to boot from the CD ...
Still get this rather clear error message

FATAL: Could not read from the boot medium! System halted

Thanks for your input

Sorry no. Virtualbox just gives you your intel processor again.

Possibly qemu could do it but I'm not sure if that works with windows.

excerpt from their docs:
4.2 Sparc32 System emulator

Use the executable ‘qemu-system-sparc’ to simulate the following Sun4m architecture machines:

* - SPARCstation 4
* - SPARCstation 5
* - SPARCstation 10
* - SPARCstation 20
* - SPARCserver 600MP
* - SPARCstation LX
* - SPARCstation Voyager
* - SPARCclassic
* - SPARCbook

Thanks for your reply, I will have a look at qemu

If anybody else has some other track I could try, it is very welcome :)

Cheers

If it requires a Sparc CPU then it can't run on an Intel CPU, hence it can't ever run as a VirtualBox VM.

If you are asking whether he could get it working in QEMU then (a) note that this thread is 4 years old and the poster has not returned here in all that time, (b) this is not the place to discuss QEMU!
