Cannot install 2.2.2 or uninstall 2.2.0
Cannot install 2.2.2 or uninstall 2.2.0
I'm running Windows XP SP2. I cannot uninstall 2.2.0 or install 2.2.2, the installation or removal does a rollback and I get the fatal error message. Am I forever stuck at version 2.2.0?
Re: Cannot install 2.2.2 or uninstall 2.2.0
Re-install, select repair option.

Start the vbox install again as administrator and it will ask if you want to repair or uninstall. Select repair.

I tried repair with an administrator account and had the same result.

I don't have admin privileges.

gman,
reinstall ver 2.2.0 then reboot.
Then reinstall 2.2.0 and tell it to remove.
Reboot again and then install 2.2.2 See if this takes care of the problem.
krreagan,
Then just follow the instructions above and see if this works.

Re: Cannot install 2.2.2 or uninstall 2.2.0
Also, when I tried to repair I get to a step in the process where the repair is looking for VirtualBox-2.2.0-r45846-MultiArch_x86.msi. Virtualbox was not installed with this file, it was installed with the VirtualBox-2.2.0-45846-Win.exe installer.
So as it stands now I guess I am stuck with virtualbox 2.2.0.

Try the step above. Then let me know what happens

Re: Cannot install 2.2.2 or uninstall 2.2.0
I have been using 2.2.0 for several months with no problems. I installed 2.2.2 will no visible problems. Except that I start any of my virtual machines and get nothing but a blank screen -- the "VB-Bios" splash screen doesn't even appear. Now I can't install or uninstall either version (2.2.0 or 2.2.2). (I did not install a beta.) All it says it that it had to abort "because of an error."
I'm running Vista-64 Ultimate with all updates.
I have nothing I can point to, but I get the feeling that there is a Registry setting somewhere it doesn't like.

Re: Cannot install 2.2.2 or uninstall 2.2.0
There are a couple of things that you can do here. First you can go back in time to a known working copy by using the Vista restore. Take it back to a date and time just before you installed the new version. Once you have this working and you feel it is fine, then reboot and start the Version 2.2.0 installer as admin (right click and then left click on run as admin) and select remove. Then reboot the machine. Then you should be able to install the new version 2.2.2, and reboot. Open the guest and install the new guest additions.TommCatt wrote:I have been using 2.2.0 for several months with no problems. I installed 2.2.2 will no visible problems. Other than that you will need to run the install as admin, until it fully installs the updates.

I'm having the same issue. None of the suggested workaround seem to help.
