2.2.2 Install Failure on XP 64-bit
I was excited for 2.2.2 because I was having some of the networking issues and Ubuntu 9.04 mouse/keyboard capture issues. Alas, when I try to install the new 2.2.2 release on my XP 64-bit host I get "VirtualBox Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error"
I'm not much of a Windows stud, so I don't know how to collect any more details about what went wrong.

Re: 2.2.2 Install Failure on XP 64-bit
Try reinstalling but this time start the install in Administrator mode. (right click the install and then left click on run as then select admin).
See if this helps. Also make sure before you do this that VBox is completely closed. Look in task manager (right click on the task bar and then task manager).
Look at the processes and stop any process that says VBox....

Re: 2.2.2 Install Failure on XP 64-bit
I am getting the same error on Vista SP1 32bit Business.
I tried to extract the files in the installer using 7zip and it did manage to extract some of the files, but it complained about a number of files been broken (yes, I know that it is not meant to be extracted by 7zip, but I had to try!).
the md5 chksum of my download is the same as the one shown on the site "9e5c2d9a41c6c9b3e619c4fc21de0b6e"
update: I don't know if it matters or not, but I am one of those who are having a problem uninstalling 2.2.0 (no matter how many times I try to uninstall it).

Re: 2.2.2 Install Failure on XP 64-bit
Actually the problem comes from the uninstall of VBox 2.2.0.
I ran a repair and it enabled my host adapter I forgot that I disabled, maybe that was the problem because after that I successfully upgraded to 2.2.2. So, try enabling the host adapter or repair your 2.2.0 install before removing.

Cool.
This solved the problem for me.
Run 2.2.0 setup and Repair the current installation.
Rerun 2.2.2 and the installation works.
Stupid.

Re: 2.2.2 Install Failure on XP 64-bit
in my case the repair option for 2.2.0 didn't help (since it never showed up). Whenever I tried to run the installer, it keep trying to install itself (even though it is already installed) then it gives this same error.
looking at the log showed me this error,
I hunted this forum and found a walk around for this problem in this post http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic. ... eta2+2.2.0
downgrading to 2.1.4 allowed me to upgrade to 2.2.2, now it is the network as well as the installer problems have been solved for me.
hope this helps

Re: 2.2.2 Install Failure on XP 64-bit
Thank you, the trick with installing 2.2.0, run repair and try installing 2.2.2 again worked for me.

Re: 2.2.2 Install Failure on XP 64-bit
I re-downloaded version 2.2.0 and did a 'repair' install as some on the board have suggested. After the repair I was able to install 2.2.2 with any "Setup Wizard Ended Prematurely" errors. Thanks!

Same problem here on Windows XP Home SP3, 32-bit.
