hi.
and sorry if this not the right place to post this.
if so please redirect me to it.

i'm having problems with internet access in VirtualBox-2.2.0-45846 on a guest xp os.
it says that i have limited or no connection.
i've tried installing virtualbox with and without network support, always the same result, tried to bridge the connections and always the same result.

guest is configured trough nat, and this is the result of ipconfig on the console

ip address 169.254.251.93
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
no gateway defined

also the network definitions are given by the os, no configuration whatsoever

and this is the host os information:
Endereço IPv4 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.5
Máscara de sub-rede . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Gateway predefinido . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

am i missing something ????
with version 2.1.4 i had internet access, all worked ok.

any ideas on what is the problem?

help would be appreciated

thanks in advance

There was a maintenance release of VirtualBox today. Version 2.2.2. Please download and install it. The new release resolves a lot of the problems that you are mentioning.
If you have further problems please let us know.

Hello all.

Ok, I have tried the 'ole Forum search and read a lot of posts, and the manual, I've tried a lot of suggestions but as yet, to no avail. Sorry for the obvious repetition but I am stumped.

The first thing that may assist is if some kind soul could explain how I do a repair install! Using the DMG installer (and I can't find reference anywhere to how I might achieve this using the command line) I can't see any way of doing anything other than an upgrade or normal install - I've tried using my default user and the root user. Can't see a repair option anywhere! I've used the uninstall script and done a full reinstall, however.

But anyways,

No problem with my networking under VirtualBox 2.1.4, which I went back to after trying and failing with 2.2.0. I've just installed 2.2.2 and encountered the same issues but think it's probably time I got them fixed rather than retreating again. I've tried removing and reinstalling VirtualBox, removing and reattaching the guest adapters to the guest, NAT and bridged configurations, no luck so far. No internet connection any more either on my other guests, Debian and Ubuntu, but I'm concerned primarily about Windows.

Host OS: Mac OS-X Tiger
Virtualbox: 2.2.2
Guest: XP SP3
Adapter type: NAT or bridged, same condition in either.

Connection: appears visible in my guest XP system, it's seemingly able to see something of the outside work as I get my cable provider's details (as below), but I can't ping anything and there's no response to any internet requests. This VM was working flawlessly under 2.1.4 and hasn't been changed (aside from installing the latest Guest Additions). Connection is via Airport (again, no problem under 2.1.4).

Thanks for any response!

PS. Just noticed this is in the Windows Hosts forum. I was trying to be good and stick to an existing topic that I found through the search, and wasn't paying attention to where it was, sorry!

Thanks Perry, I think this may be an issue with OS-X Tiger as I've done practically the same thing on Leopard and it works fine, I've put a post in the Mac Host forum as that's probably more appropriate.

Feel free to remove the one above.

Cheers!
