[SOLVED]Copying files to samba share crashes virtual machine

Post by dsan »

Hi,

this issues has me on my knees.

I run VirtualBox PUEL on my Vista Ultimate host. I installed an Ubuntu Server 9.04 into a virtual machine. So far so very good ;) This worked decently.
I then configured samba on the Ubuntu server to expose my home directory, so I can mount it as a network share on the Vista host. Still all working like a charm.

Here comes the cut:
When I copy a bunch of files to the mounted network share in Vista, the virtual machine crashes.
First I thought it was only the samba server dying on me, but no, the machine completly dies on me.

When writing files to the share with a programm, say the Eclipse IDE - everything is fine. But as soon as I start to copy a bunch of files - badaboom.

This makes me sad :/

Some more info on my setup:
I run Vista Ultimate on an Intel Core2Duo with 4GB of ram as a host system. The VM is configured with a 8gb fixed sized .vdi and 768 mb ram. I use bridged networking - (maybe this is the issue?!). The drives in the guest os use no encryption, have the correct file permissions set and everything.

I really like VirtualBox over VMWare and would like to stick to it.

If more info is needed drop me a line.

Best regards,
Daniel

I had a similar situation and switching my Virtual network adapter to the Intel PRO fixed this, I also manually set the MTU in the guest to 1500 so that might have affected it as well.

Thanks a million Perryg!
Setting the network adapter to Intel PRO did the trick - you made my day
I didn't change the MTU setting as it worked straight away, I will though keep it in mind if I expierence more problems concerning this issue.

@vbox4me2:
I run VirtualBox 2.20 r45846 - PUEL.

Thanks for the super-fast replies and a working solution.
Now I can work - bummer ;)

Regards,
Daniel
