USB dongle

I tried to build a (64bit) linux based VirtualBox server with (32bit) Windows guests, that needs to access a USB dongle. It did not work. This is a CmStick dongle from Wibu Systems AG, that is used via a Windows program called CodeMeter. The USB device seems to be ready and can be attached to the guest. CodeMeter can access it, the dongle serial number can be read from the device, but the communication between the CodeMeter and the USB device breaks for an unknown reason. On a native Windows, and in VMware it works fine. I loked around with google, and found other people with the same problem. The developer of the dongle and the CodeMeter software can/want not solve the issue. They use VMware for testing in their developement stage, and they don't care about VBox. VBox works well with an other dongle based solution (alladin), so it's a device-specific problem as I can see. Does someone know how to make it work?

Did you pay much for the software and dongle? If you did, then demand the support you supposed to get for that price. Getting dumped with the argument "use product X" is a no go. It's just the same as how MS does it's marketing, everyone says you need to use it, while there are plenty of alternatives.

Hi,

we just have received a CodeMeter dongle and experienced the same problem. The serial number is shown correctly but the control center software cannot access the stick's content. We're using the CodeMeter Runtime 4.01 (32-bit) for that. As soon as we found out something we'll let you know.
