Question about Host-only network

Post by persty »

I like NAT connection, but I hate these manual port forwarding rules.
I also don't want virtual OS to get external IP address other than host machine.
So I was trying to make network bridge on my Windows host between existing Internet connection and VB Host-Only Ethernet adapter.
I assume it's enough to enable network access from Internet to all ports of my Debian guest OS.
In fact, it is not. It doesn't work.
Should I change smth in nw configuration on Debian guest?

nano /etc/network/interfaces
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
Should I write out the network bridge too?
Smth like
auto br0
iface br0 inet dhcp
bridge_ports eth0 [bridge name]
If so how should I set the bridge name in VB, so that it will be seen by guest OS?
Sorry for my English.

Host-Only is not bridgable. You don't want that. It's just as it states, connection between Host and Guest only. No way to get to the outside. If you want to do it that badly, use Bridged mode on your physical NIC. If you don't want that, then add a second nic, one for Host-Only, the other for NAT. The rest of the network won't be able to access the VM.
