Hi everybody,

First of all, I suppose I have to introduce myself. I'm a French student, 19 years old, male. I'm studying computer science and I use Linux to learn how to make C programs. I used Virtualbox for Ubuntu 8.10 and the Additions Client ran successfully. I decided to upgrade to 9.04 by downloading directly the ISO image from the official website, and in the same time, to upgrade VirtualBox to 2.2.0 version.

But when I install Additions Client, I can't use cursor to move between Ubuntu and Windows. I tried three times to install it but it don't work at all, even if I have better graphics. I tried to search over here to find informations but I found nothing. That's why I chose to make that topic.

You need to install the guest additions and watch for any errors that you see my friend.

I installed VBOXADDITIONS_2.2.0, running the VboxLinuxAdditions-x86.run file

The install occured and it ask me to restart, I restart and everything is ok, except the cursor moving on Windows/Ubuntu. I took this to show you the mouse icon status:

What happens when you right click on the mouse indicator?
It appears to me that the guest additions are not installed (thou I am sure that you did what you said).
What happens if you reinstall them? Be sure to watch for any errors.
Did you also install the kernel-headers before you installed the guest additions?

Well, I suppose it's ridiculous but I think I forgot to switch in administrator mode in the console before the installation because I did it again as you told me and it works... Well I'm sorry for your time wasted ^^"

Well, I just reinstalled the VBox additions about 10 times by the time being. No success so far. I don't even see the mouse-cursor anymore, when I left-click into vbox...

apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r` returns:

Maybe I should add that I am running a x86-64 Ubuntu guest on a Windows 7 host (Pointer Integration worked seamlessly on same host with a x86 Ubuntu guest)

Uhm, actually I'm still experiencing this problem. I've put my post here, because this thread described my problem, even though it was marked 'resolved'. But obviously it wasn't/isn't (in my case).

The new version of VBox was just released today. Try installing that and see if your problems still exist. If so I would suggest that you start a new thread. Also if you find time please update your profile to include your system information and when posting give all of the machine information version numbers and other stats that will assist us in helping you. I'll try updating tomorrow, if the problem persists (which I'm not expecting, considering "# Guest Additions: make sure the virtual mouse autodetection works on ?rst reboot after installing the Additions on X.Org server 1.5 and later."), I'll open a new thread (if necessary by then).

this has been covered plenty of times before, don't open a new thread.

see sasquatch's linux howto on what to do with the xorg.conf to solve the invisible cursor problem.

as for the mouse integration, sometimes you need to keep reinstalling the additions and you must do it as root (sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.sh)

To resolve my problem, I had to switch into administrator mode before the additions install by writing "sudo -s" in the console.

Next, I installed the additions and then it was ok.
