64bit Host no 64bit guest

Post by DiRTDOG »

Hello I am new to Virtual Box and I would like to test out other 64bit OS's on my WinXP 64bit host machine. I have VT enabled in my BIOS and I cant get the 64bit guest to install. The OS's are different XP64, Win764, Vist64 etc. here is a screen shot of the error.

Attempting to load an x64 operating system, however this CPU is not compatible with x64mode. Please install a 32bit x86 OS. Setup will not continue.

Thank you for any help

System:
XP64bit
Q6600
4gbRAM

Windows seems to not care and works but VBox does not see a 64 bit system.
Some causes are:
VT-x/AMD-v not turned on.
Bios does not support 64 bit.
Mother board not compatible with 64 bit.
Sometimes upgrading the BIOS helps.

According to Intel these are the requirements for your CPU. Feel free to contact the system vendor an see if your system will support 64 bit visualization.
64-bit computing on Intel architecture requires a computer system with a processor, chipset, BIOS, operating system, device drivers and applications enabled for Intel® 64 architecture. Processors will not operate (including 32-bit operation) without an Intel® 64 architecture-enabled BIOS. Performance will vary depending on your hardware and software configurations. Consult with your system vendor for more information.

Thanks for the suggestion. VT-x/AMD-v is turned on.

It worked on the older version of VBox, when I upgraded it no longer works. I uninstalled and whent back to the old version and now it doesnt work there either. So now I am back to the latest version and I have no clue on why it would work and then not...

Thanks for any info.
