Set host key to Menu button

Hi, I'm experiencing the bug #3689 so I can't select the host key through the GUI configuration. I can still edit the configuration manually, but I would like to use as host key the menu button (the one that opens the contextual menu), a key that I never use so it's perfect for me (I use Right Ctrl very often instead).

Could someone that can use the gui configuration tell me which is the code for that key?

Thank you

I've set mine to the right Alt key, or also known as AltGr. Works just fine. On my Linux system, I ran xev to grab the menu key, and this is the output for it:

Code: Select all

keycode 135 (keysym 0xff67, Menu)
This might be different on Windows though. I hope it helps you somehow.

Hi,

unfortunately in Italy we need AltGr for some symbols, including @.

Thanks anyway.

The code part is for the Menu key you requested. I don't know if it works for you. The AltGr key is also something I use for certain characters like the Euro sign (€), but this is in Linux only.

I am using my Toshiba Tecra M3 laptop and there is no right Cntl key.

How can I change it to the menukey, as this is also a button I never use.

I can't seem to edit it in File, Preference, Input........... It shows the Host Key, but how to edit it ??? It says in the instructions ( little window message that displays info when you pass the mouse over a field ) to activate the entry field and press a new Host Key. but I don't have a right control to activate it.....is there a work around ??? Thanks.

By "activate the entry field" I suspect that they mean "mouse click or tab over to the box".

Yeah, I tried that and everything else. They should really have a drop down window with plenty of other keys to choose from. Hope they get this right in the next version.

There's a bug in 2.2.0 that prevents it from grabbing the new key. You have to edit the xml file, or downgrade temporarily to a previous version.

Okay, it's a known bug in the current version 2.2.0. It was't there in 2.1.4

Someone figured a workable solution, as this bug will be fixed in the next version release.

You can change it to "Right Alt" for now by doing the following.

Go into dos prompt.

Go to the director that has VBoxmanage.exe (c:\program files\sun\xvm virtualbox\) and type the following

VBoxManage.exe setextradata global GUI/Input/HostKey 165

Then restart Virtual Box. At least you have Right Alt to work with. I check it out and it works.

I have a program tradestation4, which require that the program is activated through a dongle which is connected through the parallel port, but virtual box is not recognizing the parallel port. Is there a method how to do this?

Not at the moment, vbox does not yet have paralel port support.
