Noob, help installing virtualbox 2.2 on ubuntu please!!

I have it running now but when i go to Devices>> usb devices is grey and i cannot use it?

That is the main reason i wanted to upgrade my version to the latest 2.2

I'm confused is there something i need to do?

That should be the right one. Try closing everything and shutting the host completely down. Start up the host and open VBox. Go to the USB section of the guest and see if you can set the blank filter. (blue dot not the green +) Save and then open the guest. Unplug the USB device and plug it back in and see if Windows gets focus and works.

Are you sure you did read everything? There is a clear note in the VirtualBox FAQ about USB. Search the page for fstab.

Your profile says Ubuntu as your primary OS, is this correct?

The fstab is a file that holds the file system table this is the file that you need to edit and put the line that Sasquatch had for you on his HOWto.

Don't forget to change the devgid value to the proper number of the vboxusers group. If you are already a member of that group, you can check it's number by running id in a terminal. It will give you something like this, where the bold text is the number you need:

uid=1000(sasquatch) gid=1000(sasquatch) groups=4(adm),24(cdrom),29(audio),30(dip),44(video),46(plugdev),102(netdev),105(scanner),108(fuse),115(lpadmin),118(admin),121(gdm),122(sambashare),124(pulse),125(pulse-access),126(pulse-rt),127(vboxusers),130(floppy),1000(sasquatch)
