I'd say, blame OpenGL for it. It's still experimental, so those kind of artifacts can happen. Not much we can do about it, as I've seen it a few times on my Guests too, on my Ubuntu Host. Forcing a redraw like you did fixes it, but it shouldn't happen. Just be patient, it will be fixed some day. It's uncertain if it will be in the next version. For now, all you can do is check the Bugtracker to see if it already is reported, and if it isn't, report it. You need a separate account for the bug system.
