no 64 bit option

Post by gnilow »

Hi experts,

I just started on VBox and it's really something.

I'm on VBox 2.2.0 r45846
I've been testing out on some 64 bit thing but find it weird. 64 bit option is missing when i try to create a OpenSolaris 64bit image in a x64 windows 2003 server machine. however on my win XP, when i try to create it, there's this 64 bit option.

I have screenshots but i'm not sure how to put it here...
Here are the scenarios when i create new image.

so in winXP host.
OS = Solaris
Version = Solaris, Solaris (64 bit), OpenSolaris, OpenSolaris (64 bit)

in Win2003E host.
OS = Solaris
Version = Solaris, OpenSolaris

Any ideas?

Thanks.
Regards,
Liang

You sure your w3k Host is actually installed and running in 64bit mode? check the BIOS if vt-x is enabled.

Yup. my win2k3e is a x64 server.

funny my normal 32 bit winxp allows the 64 bit option even before i turn on the vt-x option in BIOS.

just curious why an actual 64 bit machine doesn't have that option.

I have the same problem with a DeLL 670 Precision with XP 64 bits.

It cannot give access to 64 bits option when trying to make a new machine ; I've just installed the last version of my BIOS but have no option concerning Vt-x.

If your BIOS does not state Virtualization, or similar, then you don't have that option available. Sorry, but you can't run 64 bit Guests.

Hi,

If you're using Win8 or any other with Hyper-V enabled, you should disable Hyper-V by going to add and remove programs and then turn windows features on/off disable the option and restart, all the x64 version are available to use,
