After upgrade to 2.2.0, my network setup stop working. It took me a while but I figured out that it was Windows XP firewall that was the problem. Here is what I did:
- To enable ODBC connection from Guest XP to SQLServer on the Host XP:
> Set SQLserver to use static port 1433
> Create a new exception in Windows firewall to open port 1433 (scope to my subnet only)
- To get filesharing working between the Host and Guest, enable "File and Printer Sharing" in the same exceptions area (Windows Firewall \ Exceptions Tab)
My lesson learned: test networking setup with all security features off (firewall/antivirus/spyware) while being disconnected from the internet.
My setup:
> 2.2.0 r45846
> Host:
. XP SP3
. VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter
. internet via Sierra Wireless Network Adapter connected to Sierra Wireless Aircard EV-DO
> Guests XP SP3 and Server 20003: Using network adapter "Intel PRO/1000 T Server (82543GC) attached to "Host-only Network"
> VirtualBox Usage: Test business enterprise software applications (end user functionality only / no software development)
My next adventure is to figure out how to get Guest XP to connect to internet via Host Broadband Aircard (Wireless) ... I think I will post for help.

You will need to setup a second network adapter in VBox and use bridged to be able to connect to the internet.
